Hi, Iā€™m annette smith, NCC, LPC Registered Associate.

I became a counselor to co-create with others their healing journeys. I believe that every individual has the ability to heal themselves and to find the peace and fulfillment they desire. I believe that my role as a counselor is to guide others on their journey.

As a member of the BIPOC community, I am committed to serving those who have marginalized identities in the mental health field. My position as a counselor also places me in the role of a social justice advocate seeking to support individuals in their empowerment.

Within a collaborative environment, I work with clients in practical ways that give them real-world tools to navigate challenging experiences. This can look like working on increasing emotional intelligence, creating and maintaining boundaries, taking responsibility, or reducing unhelpful behaviors such as people-pleasing.

My Approach

I believe that it is innately human to desire optimum wellness and connection with others. Often circumstances in life slow down or hinder these needs and through counseling, individuals can find meaning in life and connect in healthy ways with others. My approach takes an Attachment and Trauma-Informed lens that understands a myriad of human sufferings as ruptures in our equilibrium. Taking both an Existential and Person-Centered approach to my counseling, I highlight the therapeutic relationship as key to gaining wellness. I work with individuals and families across the lifespan to support the healing process of various traumatization and disrupted or damaged relationship attachments.

counseling

I am a collaborative therapist who works holistically with each client. With a focus on the mind/body connection we work to develop deeper understanding of your past, present, and what you seek for your future. I incorporate a variety of modalities, tools, skills, and frameworks for understanding wellness. Common issues people come to me with are: anxiety, depression, trouble with their emotions, trauma from childhood, distress in relationships and careers, and seeking to live an authentic life.

coaching

Whether I am in the role of counselor or coach, I am collaborative, open and seek to empower the client. As a coachee, you will be empowered to make decisions that are best for you and your family. You will be supported and encouraged throughout the process with a non-judgment stance. The purpose of coaching is to encourage what you already do well and provide some new ideas and skills to add to your family. This does not take the place of counseling but can still have therapeutic effects on you and your children.
